Apache Behavioral Health Services

The Apache Behavioral Health Services Victims of Crime Unit has existed on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation since 1992 to increase awareness of how domestic violence and child abuse were destroying many lives and families on the reservation. The program provides services to victims of domestic violence, child physical and sexual abuse, rape, and other violent crimes. The program provides victims with advocacy services, assistance in working with the legal and law enforcement entities, Apache translation services, transportation to and from shelter homes, and counseling.

Navajo County Attorney’s Victim Services Division

The Navajo County Attorney’s Victim Services Division serves victims of any criminal activity prosecuted by the Navajo County Attorney’s Office. Services include, but are not limited to, crisis counseling, legal advocacy, legal education, courtroom orientation and courtroom escort, assistance with victim impact statements and notification requests, referrals to additional resources, and information and assistance in filing for Crime Victim Compensation funds.

All areas within the physical county borders of Navajo County, including Indian Reservations, are served by this office.

Tohdenasshai (Kayenta) Women’s Shelter

Tohdenasshai (Kayenta) Women’s Shelter is a haven for abused women and their small children. The program provides food, clothing, a private room, transportation to doctor, lawyer, counselor, social services, and other safe homes. Children receive care appropriate to their age. Those old enough are enrolled in one of the local schools.

White Mountain SAFE House

White Mountain SAFE House, a non-profit privately funded shelter, is a place where victims of domestic violence situations can find shelter for up to 90 days. Women and children (females of all ages; males up to 13 years of age) who is or has been in a situation of physical, emotional, or sexual abuse can use our services, for which there is no charge. Outpatient counseling is also available at no charge. Shelter care is available in emergency situations through a 24-hour on-call system. Client confidentiality is strictly observed. White Mountain SAFE House has domestic violence counseling and support groups led by professional trained therapists focusing on the following issues: presenting choices, empowerment, dynamics of violent behavior, safety, parenting, communication and conflict resolution skills, case management, and effects on children.
